Marc Le Rest is a French painter whose works echo the distinctive world of 16th- and 17th-century Northern European portraits, with a marked preference for the Baroque style.
Marc Le Rest, a French artist born in Brest in 1970, studied at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris. His talent soon led him to collaborate as a textile designer with prestigious fashion houses such as Hermès, Armani, and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
Today, he devotes himself exclusively to painting. His works draw inspiration from the portraits of 16th- and 17th-century Northern Europe, with a particular fondness for the Baroque style. He elevates his characters by adorning them with lace, jewels, and embroidered ribbons, blending elegance with refinement.
His oil paintings stand out for their remarkable finesse, subtle play of transparency, and meticulous attention to detail.
After portraying animals dressed as humans, Marc Le Rest now turns his focus to female portraits, clothing his subjects in sumptuous garments decorated with feathers and flowers. The lush landscapes and exotic animals that surround them add a sense of escape to this vibrant and abundant Rococo universe.
