Biografía
Joseba Sanchez Zabaleta, was born in 1970 in Cistierna (Spain), lives and works in Gaucin, Malaga province.
In 1983, despite his youth, he entered the Academy of Art and Decoration in San Sebastian, and by 1988, after five years, he graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Zaragoza.
The initial phase of his work consisted of small-scale ink drawings and watercolors. The northern light and real forms are reflected in his work as he interprets the surrounding landscape. This was his early work. Ten years passed.
Having accumulated a significant body of work, he felt ready to exhibit. He traveled to Madrid with this goal in mind. From this journey emerged a series of paintings in which the change is clearly evident. He became captivated by the city and what it generated, thus tracing the structural lines of his future work, which became more personal and thoughtful.
He used to paint landscapes, but today he primarily paints objects, abandoned places, and city outskirts.
Now, after exhibiting in Madrid with the young realists of his country, he is clearly associated with the New Spanish Realism. His work has definitively opened up to the world and is part of significant national and international private collections.
